Sharing Saddlerock

I love this mountain.  And mostly ’cause we go way back.  Back to when I wore a black timex on my left arm and passionately timed myself each time I hiked the thing.

I won’t even pretend that was cool.

It’s been awhile, though.

Since I’ve worn a watch…

Or been back to see Saddlerock up close.  But here it is looking the same as I remember.  Dry.  Sagebrushy.  And steep.

There’s…

there’s somethin’ about this place.

Which is why I brought these clowns.

I wanted them to enjoy it, too.

It’s just that it’s steep.  And eighty-six degrees.

And one of ’em’s coughing.

And both are hatless.

Only for whatever reason or for none at all…

they keep putting one foot down in front of the other.

Here’s the saddle now.

Here’s one of my red-cheeked children before the final climb.

And…

and here are the disbelieving winners of… The Price Is Right!

And this is their reward…

a view of Wenatchee from the top…and a drink of water.

This is the little guy who steals my heart regularly…

sometimes in the form of a heart attack.

And this is one of the reasons I breathe…

in shallow gasps.

This is the other.

Which is why the trail down feels like cake…heh…comparitively.

And the memory…just as sweet.

Our favorite hike. I think by the time we left doing it with Joshua in a backpack made it a little longer, but still one I look forward to doing again.
