Egg Education

It was my son’s first egg toss this afternoon–courtesy of the neighborhood Block party, which takes its annual egg toss seriously and even invites the city firemen–uh, no lie–at which time my son tip-toed cautiously back to the grass with his egg lest he somehow step on it en route.   He then hefted the egg to his shoulder…completely unaware that egg tosses are tosses and not pitches…

and fired it eight feet away at his dad…

who caught the thing with both palms and underhanded it back.

Then my son, whose mouth opened wide enough to hold the egg, waited in catch position.

For the 45 seconds his egg was intact, my son had never known such anticipation…

such excitement…

or such carefree joy could be found in a single uncooked egg.
