The Power Test

Both kids were shirking the caps off markers when my son said suddenly, “men have power.”

My daughter started to color.  My son shot a pen cap past the table.

“Dads have power too,” he went on.  He tapped his chin where yesterday two band aids had clung like velcro. “And dad has so much power,” he bragged. “He tore my band aids off, and it didn’t even hurt.”

My daughter looked up.  Her brother nodded.

“It’s the truth.”
