Heart Vision

In a manner that said, “I picked this just for you,” my son appeared before me with a leaf.

No flower in sight.

Just a leaf…rounded like a spade and smooth on the face like a skipping stone.

I reached for the lonely bouquet tick-tocking beneath my nose and traced the leaf’s outline with my fingers.

My boy beamed.

“It’s pretty,” I mused.

And my boy…

my boy who galloped away sideways with his eyes still on mine  said…

“like you, mommy.”
